In August 2012, the Free State was turned into a winter wonderland as snow fell in Golden Gate Highlands National Park. It was the heaviest snowfall the park had seen in six years. When these pictures were taken on the morning of 7 August 2012, snow was still falling.

Snow covers the area in front of the Golden Gate Hotel as snowflakes continue to fall.
