Situated between the Amatigulu and Tugela River Mouths, this coastal reserve is only an hour’s drive north of Durban and one of the few places you can see wildlife grazing amid forested dunes. The coastal grasslands and rivers attract many animals. Walking or surf angling on the beach will reward you with wildlife sightings, a sea breeze and tranquil time out.
Main attractions
- Exceptional birding
- Game watching tower close to camp
The walking trails are particularly exciting for the tree and flower fundis, getting you up close with local specials. As well as the grassland, there’s excellent swamp forest, coastal dune forest, beach and dune vegetation.

Not sure when this was written but to my knowledge the tented camp and camping, are no longer happening and the reserve sadly is in a state of neglect?
Similar comment to the above. Previously the tented camp was closed for repairs, with no one able to give a start or finish, the picnic/camping area was completely over grown and was the reserve was full of cows grazing in it. It would be nice to know the plan for this beautiful venue?
