Wild 33

Since the holidays are upon us, do you know where to find the quietest beach in the country? The answer’s in the summer 2015/2016 issue of Wild magazine. Or if you’d rather visit one of South Africa’s three favourite tourist destinations, first read our insider info.

Parks in the spotlight

Everybody loves the Garden Route, Table Mountain and Kruger National Parks. Chances are you’ll soon be visiting one of these three iconic destinations.

To get the most out of your Garden Route stay, we have compiled the ultimate 14-day detailed itinerary. From west to east, we explore the lakes, the rivers, the hikes, the forest and the coast. We even show you where to go scuba diving on what must surely be the only designated underwater trail in the world.

For those of you who will be spending time on Table Mountain, we go behind the scenes to look at two charismatic species you may encounter in the park. What should you do if you see the apex predator?

In Kruger, we go on a cross-border adventure from Mopani rest camp into Mozambique’s Limpopo National Park. Plus we hitch a chopper ride to soar with vultures.

To give the crowds the slip, we suggest you go camping in the Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. In December? No, we’re not suffering from sunstroke! It is solitary bliss. Read our stories about pitching a tent on the deserted beaches alongside the Gariep, and enjoying the scenery on a leisurely paddle.

Photography

If you don’t have a super wide-angle lens to capture a panorama, don’t despair. It’s easy as pie to stitch a series of shots.
