New bakkie for counter poaching

Unite Against Poaching, managed by UNITRANS Volkswagen and Audi and the South African Honorary Rangers, recently sponsored a customised Volkswagen Amarok single cab bakkie for the SANParks dog unit in Kruger

Unite Against Poaching, an initiative of Unitrans Volkswagen and Audi and the SANParks Honorary Rangers, recently sponsored a customised Volkswagen Amarok single cab bakkie for the SANParks dog unit in Kruger. This will help the team – foxhounds with super sensitive noses – track down poachers more quickly.

SANParks CEO, Dr David Mabunda, who accepted the vehicle at the Head Office in Pretoria, said that the vehicle was proof that together much more can be done to win the fight against rhino poaching.

Since January this year, a total of 281 rhinos have been poached with 164 of them being killed in the Kruger National Park. On the positive side, there have been an increasing number of arrests. The number of arrests stands at 176 for the country of which 39 were arrests made in Kruger.

Dr Mabunda went on to say that this sponsorship signifies increasing cooperation from the public which he hopes will result in successful investigations, more arrests and ultimately more successful convictions of the perpetrators.

Wendy MacNicol says:Hooray. Hope those foxhounds track down large number of poachers. Just wish they could also track down the greedy and totally selfish "top cats" who are coining in the money! And if they did, wouldn't it be nice if they could give them a really nasty bite!!

Your Name Here says:Hopefully this will help with the senseless killing of these magnificent animals. Was in the KNP in June and did not see one rhino! Heres to success with the dogs that have been trained and their traineers. Shoot the poachers on site and leave them to rot - thats what they deserve. Have joined Woolies with there initiative to save the rhino. What is next? wooli Sally
