Although no big game occur here, this reserve is situated on the edge of the Jonkershoek Mountains just south of the small town of Stellenbosch. The serene environment is great for birding, picnicking and short walks. In spring the area around the Assegaaibosch manor house is transformed into a wild flower garden.
